Psychologists call the executive functions the ability to function in a high demand environment as a working mother, a parent with active children, a manager in a complex business, a school teacher with busy days. The capacity of timing, sequencing and planning is the core ability to perform executive functions well so improving the core brain process results in better ability to keep schedules straight, appointments and phone numbers in your head, and respond to emergencies with cool and good judgment. The New York Times ( 8/26/03 ) called these functions the CEO of the Mind. A study at the University of Illinois of 124 people age 60 to 75 found that those in the walking group as opposed to a non-aerobic toning group, were much quicker at switching tasks after their fitness training. Wall Street Journal April 29, 2003 . IM training requires switching between 13 hand and foot exercises involving cross body motions and right & left hemispheres.

Memory Exercises Twenty years or so after they pioneered the physical-fitness boom, baby boomers are now trying to keep their brains in shape. Their inspiration is a growing body of scientific evidence suggesting that people's minds don't necessarily have to decline as they get older. Wall Street Journal April 29, 2003 p. D1.
